Today, my best friend since the 7th grade is leaving for Arizona for school. She's not considering ever really moving back to Ohio, but she will be making regular journeys out here to visit her family here. I'm pretty sad about the entire thing - we haven't really been apart in around seven years. We've grown up with each other, had a lot of drama... we were even "Wiccan" together for a whole five months or so. She's taught me about all kinds of interesting things, like real Mexican food, Native culture and religion, True Blood, Lord of the Rings, and all kinds of amazing things that I wouldn't otherwise have known a damned thing about.
The trip from Ohio to Arizona is a long one, and some of the roads are rough. Her and her father are going to be making this trip a number of times a year, whether by air or car. I would appreciate it if anyone who stumbles on this would give a short prayer to your respective God/s for their safety.
This morning, before they finished their business here and left, I did my own ritual for Hermes. I gave him frankincense, barley, and fresh, cool water. The prayers were long and beautiful, hymns were said. A few spiders crawled up the makeshift rock altar in my backyard and made their presence known - I'm not sure what to make of it yet. Me and my partner sat and reminisced, giggled a little. Before long though, the nymphai who make their home in my back yard were tapping us on the shoulder, saying "Hey, go get another cuppa coffee, it's too early for us to be up!" and we went back inside. We managed to snap a few pictures though - I'm going to attach one here because I think the ritual space we made was beautiful this morning.
