Orphic Hymn 84, for Hestia

To Hestia - Fumigation from Aromatics.



Daughter of Kronos, venerable dame,

Who dwellest amidst great fire's eternal flame,

In sacred rites these ministers are thine,

Mystics much blessed, holy and divine.


In thee the Gods have fixed their dwelling place,

Strong, stable basis of the mortal race,

Eternal, much formed, ever florid Queen,

Laughing and blessed, and lovely of mien,



Accept these rites, accord each just desire, and gentle health and mindful good inspire.


Hestia, who is the first and the last, who tends the hearth fire of the Lord Apollon, without whom mortals could not feast, by whatever name you wish to be called, I ask your presence because I have given you sacrifice and offerings when I cook, maintain my house, entertain my guests, and because you are able. I ask you to bless this blog with the harmony and fruitfulness of your presence - that the ideas brought here, exchanged here, discussed here, shall come with good hospitality and diverse opinion. I ask that you keep me mindful of this place and the good it will be for me. For this, I shall be ever thankful and mindful. Efkharistw.
